Introducing Marie Ducas Art…

Let the gaze be constantly enchanted by the spectacle of nature.
Having travelled through the world from one end to the other, and intoxicated myself with the infinite wealth of colours I have seen, I translated those imprinted visions onto canvasses.
Keeping only a few essential forms of my overall perceptions for a composition, I embellish them with my imagination.
As a self-taught artist, this is the inner need to which I have been responding for more than twenty years.
Acrylic paint has been my preferred medium. The works are executed in rapid and intuitive gestures, with a brush and a knife, in light layers, sometimes even transparent but occasionally bold & thick, guided by freedom rather than conventions.
I hope my paintings give you as much visual delight as they did me in the process of creating them.

About Marie

I was born in Paris, France in 1931, inheriting a rich cultural legacy encoded in my DNA. It wasn't until retirement that my global adventures allowed that heritage to unfurl its vibrant tapestry.

A self-taught artist, I found my inspiration in the colours and exquisite marvels of the natural world. Following my intuition, I honed a distinct artistic viewpoint.

Sketching became my faithful companion during my sojourns, having learnt the basic skills from short courses at the Beaux Arts in Rueil Malmaison, France, the Silvermine Art Center in Connecticut, USA and the Julian Ashton Art School in Sydney.

With a history traversing the world while based in Paris and Connecticut as well as two decades of calling Sydney home, I have seen a full breadth of natural beauty. Of all these wondrous places, my heart is most captivated by the wilderness of Western Australia, a love that resonates through many of my cherished works.
